The Lady Bulldogs tennis team advanced to the state tournament for the third straight year with a 4-0 sectional win over Tennessee High on Wednesday.
Bearden will open state tournament play in a 2 p.m. semifinal match against Brentwood High on Tuesday in Murfreesboro. The final is Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
“It is a special thing,” said Bearden Coach Tyler Lane, whose three state tournament appearances are the only three in program history.
“You never know when you’re going to get back to state, so we’re just going to enjoy it.”
Ravenwood has beaten Bearden in the state championship match each of the past two years. The Lady Raptors were eliminated by Brentwood this year.
Sophomore Julia Adams and senior Brittany Foust will have a second opportunity to win a state title later in the week. They will start their run in the state doubles tournament when they take on Makenna and Marlaina Peterson from Volunteer High School on May 26 at 10 a.m.
Seniors Charlie Adams and Griffin Davis will play in the boys division of the doubles tournament. They open with a 10 a.m. quarterfinal match against Ben Leonard and Jonathan de Jesus from Houston High School.
The state semifinals for both boys and girls are later the same day. The girls state championship match is at 10 a.m. on May 27, and the boys will follow at noon.
Foust and Adams made it to the state championship match last year, and Davis and Charlie Adams did the same as freshmen.
All matches will take place at the Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro. All times in this story are Eastern.
