Bearden’s first season in the newly remodeled Class 6A will include matchups with two interesting non-district foes.
A game against West makes its return to the schedule after a two season absense, and a mid-season home game against CAK will mark the first ever meeting between the two schools.
“We wanted to get West back on the schedule because that’s a good rivalry game for West Knoxville,” Bearden Coach Morgan Shinlever said. “Our school zones back up against each other so it’s a natural rivalry, geographically and from the relationships that are made amongst the kids.
“The biggest thing that made the CAK game happen was the natural interest from our kids to play CAK. Our kids have a lot of friendships over there, so that makes for a natural rivalry.”
Bearden’s new region (still called Region 1-6A) will include Dobyns-Bennett, Farragut, Hardin Valley, Jefferson County, Morristown West, and Science Hill.
“It was nice to see Farragut be in our district,” Coach Shinlever said. “That’s a rivalry game that we get to keep, as well as Hardin Valley, so that was a definite advantage to the new districting because that was a non-district game for us.”
The Farragut game will return to October after taking place in early September the last two seasons.
Games against Farragut and Science Hill will take place on the road for the second consecutive season due to the re-districting. However, Bearden will host Jefferson County, Dobyns-Bennett, and Hardin Valley for the second consecutive season.
In week two of the season, Bearden will face off with Cleveland for the first time since 1994, and in week four will take on South Doyle for the first time since 2004.
