Multiple Teams · Bearden gets third win of the season over South Doyle

Bearden beat South Doyle 27-14 on Thursday night in another excellent defense performance.

South Doyle (1-3) came out swinging, scoring on their first possession of the game, and Bearden (3-1, 1-0 Region 1-6A) didn’t answer back until two possessions later on a one-yard rush from sophomore quarterback Collin Ironside.

Bearden had a strong start to the second quarter, recovering a South Doyle fumble and then going on to score on a touchdown run from junior DJ Cox.

The half ended when South Doyle intercepted an Ironside pass in the Bearden end zone, but couldn’t score. Bearden led 14-7 at the half.

The Bulldogs extended their advantage late in the third quarter, when DJ Cox ran for a 33-yard touchdown. Cox followed this up with his third and final touchdown of the game on a 26-yard pass from Ironside.

Junior Caleb Wilkins intercepted a pass later in the third quarter. He also had two fumble recoveries in the game.

Sophomore London Stephney led Bearden in receiving with 52 yards and DJ Cox led rushing with 117 rushing yards.

Bearden will travel to Johnson City next Friday to face Science Hill (3-0, 1-0) in a highly anticipated regional game.
