Bearden’s girls soccer team beat Farragut 2-0 on the road in a sub-state game on Saturday to advance to this week’s state tournament.
Abby Brewer and Emily Carlevato scored the two goals early in the first half.
Bearden will open state tournament play against Brentwood on Wednesday in Murfreesboro.
Like any sub-state game, this game meant a lot to players, but the fact that it was against rival Farragut increased the significance.
“This win meant the world to us; I don’t think we could have asked for a sweeter victory,” senior captain Kendall Scott said. “We were all a little down after our loss to Science Hill (in Thursday’s region final), but in the end, it all worked out for the best.
“Ending Farragut’s season to advance to the state tournament made the win for the seniors even sweeter.”
Before this game, the seniors on the team had only beaten Farragut once in their four years, so they made sure they weren’t going to miss the chance for one more Farragut win.
“We have only beaten them once since being at Bearden, and not only beating them our last time playing them, but also ending their season in a sub-state game, is an indescribable feeling,” Scott said.
