Bearden’s boys basketball team got its second win of the season over fifth-ranked Cleveland on Monday night, but this win came a lot easier for the Bulldogs.
The No. 2 Bulldogs dominated the Blue Raiders 93-76 on Monday after surviving 63-60 early in the season.
Coach Jeremy Parrott credits the large margin of victory to his team’s fast tempo this game.
“I think the game was just more up tempo overall,” Coach Parrott said. “When we played there, they played a little slower, a little more half-court game with us.
“We favor that tempo, so it played like we wanted it to.”
Playing a strong team like Cleveland this late in the season can be beneficial for teams, and Coach Parrott believes this game will help heading into the postseason.
“We got somebody that we normally wouldn’t play, that’s from a whole different region that we could see in the post season if we made a deep run,” Coach Parrott said. “It also lets you know maybe how far we’ve come in a month and a half since the first time we played them.
“It’s the perfect kind of game you want going into a postseason.”
Bearden’s win was backed by 26 points from Ques Glover, 25 from Trent Stephney, and double figures from Drew Pember and Roman Robinson.
Bearden will take on Austin East on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Austin East.
