Bearden’s girls’ basketball team advanced to the TSSAA state semifinal on Wednesday after a win against Arlington.
The Bulldogs got it done in high scoring fashion, 70-42.
Bearden had five players scoring in double figures: sophomore Jakhyia Davis had 12, junior Shekinah McLaughlin had 10, junior Tytiaira Spikes had 11, senior Grace Van Rij had 11, and senior Trinity Lee led the team with 23.
Head Coach Justin Underwood was content with the outstanding performance of his team.
“I was very pleased with how well the girls executed our defense and offensive game plans,” said Coach Underwood. “Jakhyia [Davis] and [Shekinah McLaughlin] were huge with both having double doubles and Trinity [Lee] shot the ball really well.”
Bearden (29-7) will play again on Friday at 11 a.m. Eastern against Riverdale (34-1) at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro.
Lee credits the team’s win to great teamwork, and believes they can continue their run if they keep up their good play.
“We wanted to keep our season going and we know if we play as a team we capable of doing anything,” said Lee.
