Julia Adams won the singles state title Friday morning, and James Eaves and Grayson Marlow won the doubles state title Friday afternoon.
Their championships come on the heels of the boys team finishing as state runners up on Wednesday.
“This has been a special season,” Coach Tyler Lane said. “This team was truly a team. They wanted it for each other.”
Adams won her final match 6-1, 6-1, and Eaves and Marlow won 6-2, 6-3.
On Tuesday, the boys team was struggling in its state semifinal match before the boys soccer team – still wearing uniforms from their state quarterfinal – showed up. The moral support and cheers turned the match around, and Bearden did not lose a game from that point forward.
The Bulldogs fell short in the state championship match to Ravenwood on Wednesday.
“I was proud of James and Grayson for fighting for their teammates to win the doubles tournament,” Coach Lane said. “These seniors, Josh Duzan included, embodied a spirit of encouragement, leadership, and camaraderie that we haven’t had before, and hopefully future teams can learn from their example.”
