Collin Ironside threw three touchdown passes and caught another in Bearden’s 49-18 win over Morristown West on Friday.
Senior Matt Carr caught an Ironside pass for the first touchdown of the game, and he later threw one to Ironside on a wide receiver pass play. The Bulldogs scored the game’s first 28 points and played the whole first half of the game without being forced to punt.
Senior Caleb Wilkins has been scoring touchdowns on the ground this season, but he mixed things up from his usual offensive scoring role, returning a pick-6 early in the game.
“We have a tradition at Bearden to never lose on Senior Night,” Wilkins said. “The team knows that and knows we needed the momentum of a win to carry us into the playoffs.”
Senior Addison Ironside shared the home field with his brother, junior Collin Ironside, for the last time. There were two completed Ironside to Ironside passes for touchdowns in Friday night’s game.
“Playing with my brother was an experience I will never forget,” Addison Ironside said. “It was a sad night, but a good night. I am glad I was able to connect with him so much for my last game at Bearden.”
With an impressive lead the Bulldogs were able to showcase a well-rounded and deep team.
“A lot of guys played their best games and that’s what you need on Senior Night,” Addison Ironside said.
The Bulldogs have had an impressive season and will advance to play at Maryville in the first round of the playoffs. The game will be Friday at 7 p.m.
