The Lady Bulldogs beat Halls 68-27 on Friday in a region quarterfinal game, setting up the third meeting of the year between Bearden and Farragut.
Bearden beat the Lady Admirals in both of the regular season meetings, but Monday’s region semifinal at 7:30 p.m. has higher stakes – the first elimination game meeting between the two rivals since 2008.
Farragut beat Powell 52-27 on Friday in its quarterfinal game.
ETSU signee Jakhyia Davis led Bearden against Halls with 26 points, while freshman post player Avery Treadwell and junior guard Zneyah McLaughlin added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The winner of Monday’s game will play the winner of the other region semi-final game between Oak Ridge (27-6) and Maryville (27-4) which is Monday at 6.
“Some things are in our favor, but it’s one of those where at this time of year, you can’t pick a night where you don’t show up and don’t play well the first quarter and then try to play catch up for another 3 quarters against a good basketball team,” head coach Justin Underwood said about playing in the postseason.
Bearden will look to defend Farragut’s flashy offense put together by head coach Jason Mayfield and led by High Point University (NC) commit Claire Wyatt, the Lady Admirals leading scorer who is shooting 50.42% from the field and 33.61% from 3 point range this season.
Standout sophomore guard Avery Strickland is also a key to Farragut’s offensive production, shooting 37% from 3 this season and posting a breakout game of 32 points against Heritage in the district tournament last week.
